It may not be some official footage but his speech is one of the best! Tell us what you thought in the comments below! Subscribe for the best speeches of all time.
man this dudes seeing v12 trucks all the time where does he live those are some rad fucking red necks lmao
This guy's head is really far up his own ass.
Or maybe you're just not ready to receive the message. The whole point of his speech was that we are all up our own ass. It is the natural state of our existence is to be self-centered and it is the course of education to help re-center us so we can look at life with a different perspective and maybe not such a self-absorbed one
@@tavenstrickert9658 blah blah blah Pseudo philosophical lingo transcendence
From the goldfish's perspective. The size of existence is relative to my ability to understand perspective
We might be goldfish, or... They might be giants. Also, side note, the best band name ever
I never regretted re watching it
This man was brilliant.
i came here for the CEO of dunder mifflin- not some philosophical mumbo jumbo
You clearly weren't ready to receive the message of the philosophical mumbo jumbo as you put it. Maybe you're one of the people he was talking about in the speech
@@tavenstrickert9658 lol it was just a joke
@@floydiustube Fair enough. It didn't really come across as a joke and it's really hard to type a joke without physical context you know so no harm no foul.
@@tavenstrickert9658 probably would make more sense if you know that the CEO of the fictional dunder mifflin company is named David Wallace
These subtitles are not beautiful or beautifully animated
Seriously considering having my first tattoo with the phrase: "This is water".
When this man killed himself, it was for fear of separation. He was separate and apart, but he never made peace with it. He never left the losers behind. He should have, but he stayed until it killed him. It makes me sad. Loyalty is overrated. Judgment is underrated. Judge them to be what they are truly with or without s capital "T". Leave once you notice they have stopped listening. That's what Wallace could have done, but didn't, and that is why he died. He was dead long before he killed himself. That realization is what killed him and all he had to do was pack a bag and seek better company for himself.

11:11 In recent decades, humanity (my bias is American, yes) has received some reminders and wake-ups that we are mortal and, as such, are no better or worse than anyone else. We are frail. We all bleed. Seems like most everyone is looking for a safe place to live and enough stimulation and sense of accomplishment to feel satisfied and engaged. I'm grateful for those who helped me learn gratitude, and for the awareness that finding joy in existing-- in being and being *aware* -- provides the greatest returns for my investment.

I like this speech but I don’t like sharing thoughts with young adults from someone who killed himself
I think it's important to recognize that even the most mentally powerful among Us can also submit to depression, alcoholism, substance abuse and suicide. Some of the most brilliant minds that we study today had problems like this. I mean I'm a huge fan of Alan Watts but Alan Watts was a terrible alcoholic. Should we not listen to Alan Watts because in the end his ideas didn't solve his own alcoholism? I think the idea that just because someone killed themselves means that all of their ideas are now invalidated that is a very dangerous idea in that itself and it lends to the concept that only the perfect among Us are worthy of being listened to. But then you have to define who's good enough and whose vices and sins are minimal enough to be considered valid
Even when he finally got his hair long He still couldn't get it right
Thank you so much Gilberto! I'll listen to it over and over again to remind myself

Makes me cry every single Time. I don’t know he killed himslef. How desperate and sad. What a wonderful human
David Foster Wallace provided a excellent speech and insight. To quote "to try to explain why the degree you are about to receive has actual human value instead of just material payoff." I feel although I can relate to this.
"It is hard work, and great art, to make life, not so serious." -John Irving. (The Hotel New Hampshire.)😉
Where have we arrived, my God??? That a guy has his speech replicated on several UA-cam channels... in which he talks about the basics of empathy and about not been fanatic. And people think this is fantastic, as if it were an alien saying something new? Society is really bad :(

KABOOM - CRASH - reality hits home - its time less - its true - I see it all around me - Thank God i am not part of it. Just nice to hear someone else explain my thoughts. THANK YOU ...
^_^ now its been codified in math too. its recurssive, why we find it everywhere
One more component filling the gaps of what constitutes the totality of MY reality. Big deal... probably. Or not ?

I believe the dot connect us to our future endeavour.
best speech ever. that was awesome
❤
It’s a little bit of a trip how hard the speech seem to hit so many people. I don’t know why a liberal art education would have anything to do with his observations. To me, this is thinking 101. I was acutely aware of this at 13 years old but the fact that it seems to be so profound to many people - I was referred here through Peter Attia’s site - illustrates to me, how lost many people are.
I must be one of the lost ones you're referring to! Perhaps it's due to the natural default settings of my comfortable, prosperous title and positions created by my college educated job where my natural default setting has been so unconsciously set to subscribe to a world of wanting, displaying and worshipping things that have not allowed me to extract purposeful meaning from my life experiences. If you were so acutely aware of all of this at age 13, God bless you. I hope you are paying it forward and creating meaning in your own life by serving others.
....I love how didnt bat an eye.
To me this speech means a lot on many levels. I also feel the numbness at times of still being alive and yes, we can’t help but be the center of our universe. For we are truly alone. We can connect on certain energies, but those fade in and out. We can love and understand deeply outside of ourselves but the fact remains we are still utterly alone. The older you become the more you realize it. The truth will not set you free. It will drive you insane , or cause you to exit the planet.
Everything that rises must converge, and people are in our lives for *a reason, a season, or a lifetime* and we may not know for certain which.
The laws of human nature book talks of focusing on empathy and getting outside your head. We often think we are saints but are quite the opposite.
This is a very great speech. That is evident to anyone who, because we're all here to listen to it, has chosen to come here and listen to it intently. However I cannot ignore the laughs throughout the whole speech, and specifically at times the timing of the laughs. Maybe it's just because of their age back then, and maybe he was giving the speech aware that the fact that made that speech pertinent would mean that some laughs would be heard at times, but he is telling no joke, and these "qualified" people not understanding or trying to playout the false attempts to lighten the mood gives off a eerie and not so hopeful, as these celebrations usually are, vibe. Absolute great message from a very sensitive and perceptive guy. Control your thoughts, control your energy and vibration, if you like, channel your attention to things that matter and are beautiful or constructive or pleasent, and like so cast misery and frustration away, and find happiness and tranquility, and, as a result, you'll also be a positive influence on others and the world around you.

Truly it’s all about perspective. Either one’s perspective is earthbound/physical or mountainous/spiritual. One gives limited insight while the other has vision that SEES the big picture. In the end, love is all that matters.

@@tavenstrickert9658 This nigga killed himself after this speech lmfaoo
@@tavenstrickert9658 this fucker killed himself. not listening to his stupid philosophy.
One of my college professors assigned us this speech to listen to and discuss. I'm so grateful for it because this is probably one of the best speeches that was ever given.
This is legitimately terrible. Was assigned to listen to it for University Seminar, and both stories hit with a negative critical hit, making me annoyed and removing any resonance with me
I love speeches with subtitles
The fact they all clapped and said wooooo! Unbelieveable really.
There's a typo within the first minutes. Trash content
The fact that he thinks he's not the "wise old fish," made more so
What is the logic behind the different colors of the words? It seems like you just made every 2 to 3 words a different color.
Wow! He is so smart!
Its true
we deify that which we can not grasp or package - sometimes for the better - often times for the worse
This speech, words to live by, should be mandatory for every college student NOW, not just at graduation. Also for every parent to help in the guidance of a child or neighbor’s child. Teaching HOW to think, that is where we are losing free speech, the consequences of not having free thinking and free expression. “It will eat you up!”
He didn't save himself but he's had something to do with my still being here. My 15 year old son has always had a present father and that feels great.
Can’t bear a world without this man🥲
